Mindset Book Review
Mindset by Carol Dwek
If you have ever wondered how you can have a more fulfilling and happy life, you are not alone! I, too, have pondered what I can do to make my life better, and it was not until just recently when I came across this book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, by Carol S. Dweck, that I realized that it is all in my way of thinking. In this enlightening book, Carol discusses how there are two different types of mindsets that ultimately influence our talents and abilities. The two mindsets that she discusses are the fixed mindset, and the growth mindset.
Through Carol’s research she has come to the revelation that people with a fixed mindset simply believe that things are what they are. Basically, failures are strictly that, with little to no room for improvement, or even realizing that it does not have to be a failure. So chances are that if your life is not happy, and unfulfilling you most likely have this fixed mindset. I, for example, realized that this used to be me. I only saw things as negatives, and not an exciting challenge.
Fortunately after reading Carol’s book I learned that I could adapt my way of thinking. Instead of accepting things as they were, I began making light out of situations. I started taking the bad, and turning them into learning experiences. For example, I believed that it the end of the month when I only had a few cents left in my bank account that it really didn’t have to be that way anymore.
The following month, after reading Carol’s book, I was determined to end the month with dollars in my bank account, instead of a few measly cents. Sure enough, after making some adjustments to my budget I ended the month with a little extra money. It may not have been much, but it was doable, and the following month I had even more money leftover. This concept doesn’t just apply to money though. I was able to apply a growth mindset to all aspects of my life, from work to my friendships.
Carol Dweck’s inspirational book has been life changing for me. It has allowed me to realize that my true potential is unknown. I now find myself happier at the end of each day, and find life to be much more fulfilling, thanks to my newfound growth mindset. I highly suggest you pickup a copy for yourself if you’re tired of living a drab life.
