Google Adwords Strategy
Stop Throwing Money a Google AdWords
Need a refreshment course on what Google Adwords is? The AdWords program enables businesses to set a budget for advertising and only pay when people actually click the ads. You will notice that the ad service is mostly focused on keywords. Google will tell you that Adwords is a way to reach new customers and grow your business. However, here are some reasons you should stop throwing money at AdWords.
I recently worked with a client that was spending $36,000 a year on Google AdWords. That’s a nice sizable budget to make an impact with AdWords. Except this client had zero return on their spending because they weren’t managing it. But astonishing thing is they had been spending this for 7 years with no return. That’s close to $200,000. Each year they kept throwing more money into Google AdWords it in hopes that it would do something.
After an analysis on their website and AdWords account we helped them set up analytics and focused keywords for the AdWords campaign.
But if you’re a small business using AdWords and don’t know what you’re doing, you may want to consider pulling your AdWords until you have really focus your AdWords.
Now don’t get me wrong, Google AdWords is a great way to promote your business and target your customers. But you have to do it right. You can’t just throw money at it in hopes that someone will see what you’re doing. Below we’ll share a few ideas of what else you can do right now to see an impact on sales.
You are paying for people to visit your site
I see a problem with this because just because someone visits your site, it doesn’t mean you will see a good return of investment. Your business may not be the type that gets paid per visitors, so AdWords probably doesn’t make sense for you to use.
AdWords is expensive
I’m a firm believer that a business should be cautious of where they are spending their money. AdWords is really getting up there in terms of expensive, so it only makes sense to use this option if you firmly believe it’s going to help your business.
You’re literally throwing your money away
If you are a small business, you really aren’t gaining any momentum using AdWords, are you? Bigger companies are the ones that have the huge budgets and can afford to have a large monthly stake in the AdWords marketing arena. Forbes wrote an awesome article on why you shouldn’t use AdWords, check it out here.
Here’s what you can do instead:
- Use keywords: Keywords are a trivial part of how the Internet works. Start seeing which keywords will help your customers find you and get on it.
- Hire an SEO Expert: It’s okay to admit that not everyone is good at SEO because they are not. Hiring a Search Engine Optimization expert is one way to help.
- Have a Plan in Mind: Instead of just signing up for something like AdWords without knowing what you are doing, have a plan in mind instead. Spend your dollars wisely to help get the best return on your investment.
